Ask a Farmer: What Do Farmers Do to Protect the Soil?

ask a farmer: how farmers protect soil

We asked Manatee County farmer Alan Jones about what he does to ensure the health of the soil year after year:

“Farmers implement best management practices such as crop rotation to ensure the health of the soil. By rotating crops grown each season in the same area, we are able to see what soil is most productive and where it may need help. We use precision agriculture to maintain nitrogen levels and add organic matter back into the soil, reducing soil erosion and increasing soil fertility and crop yield.”
